Class Enrollment and Schedule

Enrollment for Monart classes takes place year round! Consult the class schedule below to see our current programs for both children and adults. You may register at the school or download the registration package to fill out before dropping by.

Students are welcome to participate in any class that's appropriate for their interest and skill. Age is not a prerequisite for any class, but a starting point.

Monart Preschool Reach Ahead Program

An interactive class designed especially for children 3 to 4 yrs old. Games, music, movement, stories and craft engage all of the young child's senses while learning to identify the 5 Elements of Shape. The preschool curriculum fosters visual perception, hand-eye coordination skills, teaches proficiency in following directions, and lays the foundation for pre-drawing and reading readiness skills – all of the essential building blocks to your child's life-long learning path!

Getting Ready I

An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of the 4 to 7 year old. Children master the ability to recognize the elements of shape and combine them in drawing the creatures from nature and objects from their world.
Media used : Markers and pastel

Getting Ready II

A class for 4-7 year olds who have mastered the ability to recognize the elements of shape and have achieved a skill level that allows them to make independent choices in composition and background ideas. Geared for the student who has learned to focus and concentrate for the one hour class, without an undue need for individual attention.

Drawing Fundamentals

An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of the 8 to 12 year old. Students will learn the Elements of Shape, the basics of the human form, and how to use proportion, perspective, shading and light logic to create drawings in a variety of realistic, abstract, and expressionistic styles. Projects are inspired by 2D and 3D subjects. The progession of lessons in a wide range of media guide students to developing independent drawing skills.

Intermediate Drawing

A class for 8-12 year olds who have achieved the skill level of working independently on projects, rarely needing a step by step demonstration by the teacher. Geared for the student who has mastered the basic skills in line, shape, proportion, perspective, and the ability to create volume through light logic, using 3 dimensional objects. Can stay focused and concentrated for a 2 hour class and is confident enough to explore various subject matter and live models with comfort.

Drawing for Teens and Adults

In this class for teens and adults at the beginner and intermediate levels, students are introduced to all subjects, media and styles of drawing and painting. Step-by-step guidance is provided for beginners and students learning new skills. This is an independent study class in which projects are geared towards individual student interests. An emphasis is placed on exploring new ideas, developing fine art skills and expressing creativity.

Advanced Drawing for Teens and Adults

A class for teens and adults who have mastered the ability to handle all the basic media and drawing styles introduced in the Basic & Intermediate class. This is an independent study class for students who are committed to spending time outside of class to work on and finish advanced drawing projects. Can satisfy the serious hobbyist as well as those who wish to pursue a career in art.

Linear Perspective in Technical Drawing

A class for teens and adults seeking to develop technical drawing skills. For anyone who draws to communicate design, including (but not limited to) fashion design, interior design, industrial design, construction, architecture, engineering, etc. An excellent supplemental course to enhance portfolios for those applying to design programs. Topics include single and double vanishing points, how to measure areas and distances, and determining accurate lengths of cast shadows from light sources.

This course runs for 3 semesters: Beginner (Sep-Dec), Intermediate (Jan-Mar), Advanced (Apr-Jun). Completion of the previous semester is mandatory to proceed to the next. Approximately two hours of assigned homework is due for class each week. Students must purchase their own supplies prior to the course.

Please note: This is NOT a computer course. (There were be no instruction in AUTOCAD.) Traditional drawing and drafting methods only.

Iconography

Paint an icon in the Russian Byzantine tradition. Students learn to grind their own pigments and mix paint with egg yolk. This class for adults is limited to 5 participants. Class fees TBA. Students must purchase their own supplies prior to the course. Download the supply list.

Monart classes may be paid for by the month or for a complete session (3 months).

1.5 hour weekly class - $133.35 per month

Session Fees

1 hour weekly class - $255.15 for 3 months
