Description: An extension of the Red Chalk Workshop, now choose between black chalk, red chalk, or silverpoint studies: While all three mediums explore similar visual phenomenon such as shadow or
contour effect, each has it's own individual characteristics. Black chalk offers an exceptional range of potentials and possibilities of expression among others it's full light to dark register. As this range of tonal
gradations is more restricted with red chalk, this medium can lend itself more to atmospheric presentation; alongside the sheer beauty of red on a warm tinted paper. Lastly silverpoint ( where one uses an actual piece of
silver to draw with ) due to it's minimal tonal range endeavors more towards capturing nature through qualities of line almost exclusively. As linear expression is of paramount importance to all manners of drawing, study
with this most delicate of mediums is advantageous to the artist in training.
Choose one of two options: either copy an existing old master drawing or create an original drawing from a photo reference, in this new five-day old master workshop.
Instructor Ryan Gauvin will provide a selection of drawings that highlight the expressive possibilities of these mediums. Some sustained areas of focus will be the modeling of form, linear aptitude, and artistic conception.
If you prefer, you can create and original drawing based on a photograph instead of a master copy. Suitable photos will be provided or you can work from your own (as long as it has been pre-approved by the instructor).
Learn first hand the key areas of weakness in photographs as sources, and workable approaches to those shortcomings. As a working artist today, you will often be faced with the problems of working from photographic
reference material, and this workshop will help you get successful, beautiful results.
